The Cabbage!

This past week our family went on a "holiday!"  This is our first real holiday we have ever had.  We went for a week to a Cottage/Cabin that our wonderful neighbours lent to us.   It was near Barry's Bay, south-east of Algonquin.  We have been calling it the "Cabbage" because the "cottage" was more of a "cabin" and those two words kept coming out "Cabbage."  We packed up the van Saturday morning and came back the following Friday.  Lovely!

It was a long drive but we only stopped twice for a good stretch.  Lunch was three large(ish) fries shared by all 7 of us.  We can't do this kind of lunch out for much longer with all the kids growing but it was fun to stop and actually get something - we were on holiday after all!

The Cabbage has a paddle boat and this was one of the first pictures I took after we arrived.  Yay!  We are here!

The beach.  See how far Eli is out?  The water was just up to his legs there.

View from the cabin.  It was so peaceful and laid-back here.  No clocks, no internet, no phones.

Lots and lots and lots of reading by all of us.  Steve and I addicted to the "Kvothe" series.  We have to wait long now for the third book.  There is our cabin in the background.  It had one bedroom where Silas and Eli slept and Steve and I slept in the Sunroom.  It got sunny there pretty early but it was worth it to watch the sunrise over the lake from bed.
Reuben, Nadine and Judah slept in a little sleep-cabin together (a shed that has windows and insulation... and electricity:)  They loved the adventure and the feeling of being grown-up :)

Reuben and Silas in the hammock.  Reuben loved to read here and Silas loved to join anyone who was in it and play and chat.

Catching minnows.  They used a net at first but once they learned how to use the minnow-catcher, it was way more exciting.

Almost every night Steve took a child, or some children, or me out on the lake in the canoe to look at the stars and learn constellations and look for satellites and the space station zooming by.  We got to see a blue moon and also a very orange moon.

All our meals outside (and usually breakfast).  Eli here came and sat by Reuben and said, "Do you know why I am going to sit beside you?  Because you are cool!"    Sweetness that I think Reuben appreciated.
